Mamma Mia! - Looooved the first half. Full of vim, vigor, wit, and wonder. Lots of great numbers, tons of fun. And then right around what I can only assume is intermission in the stage play, the thing deflates like a big deflating thing. Pierce Brosnan cannot sing and yet they keep giving him numbers. Meryl Streep kept getting stuck with these slow, melancholy songs with static visuals. The whole thing picks up at the end (and omg stay through the credits), but it's not quite enough to reinvigorate the whole film.

But Julie Walters and Christine Baranski (especially Walters) are made of utter awesome.

Dr. Horrible Act III (link) - I liked it. By liked it, I mean "was utterly depressed by it" but it reminded me a lot of Sweeney Todd without the horror and I kind of dug that. I do feel like Joss needed another Act or something to make the whole thing cohese better, but overall, I give it thumbs up. Two thumbs. Very sad ones.

I was a bit disappointed by Act 3, and that sucks. Because 1 and 2 were asdfjklAWESOME, and 3 felt rushed and that song was sooooo long, and it ended....too abruptly.

I thought Act III lacked. Act II was definitely the pinnacle, I thought. Plus, I was hoping for a surprise ending, and I didn't get it.

Meh! All in all though, lots of fun.

after watching, I really don't think Fillian can necessarily carry an entire song. It needed something extra. Maybe joined by a chorus or something.

Act III left me with my jaw on the floor for a good ten minutes afterward. Too much sad! :(

I'll forge the way for commenting on Mamma Mia!

What you said. Streep is fantastic but OMG, stop letting Brosnan sing! The older "girls" carried the movie - all three of them - and it seemed like the rest were just there for filler.

Odd true story - My mom and I saw this in a theater with at least 40 other people...and we were the only ones who laughed at anything. And it's not like we were tittering...we were falling out of our seats laughing because the whole thing was SO Bollywood over the top. Plus, once one of us laughs the other gets started and...

Yeah. I'm shocked we weren't kicked out of the theater.
