Night Vale at the Largo
Oct. 5th, 2013 09:38 pmIt was effing magnificent. I don't want to get into too many plotty details because there was enough new canon that I suspect that this is going to be the next episode or pieces of it will be broken up amongst episodes. Also, Night Vale loses a lot in the retelling if you're not talking to somebody who already knows the episode beats.
Cecil Baldwin (the actor, not the character) knows how to play a crowd. It was a weird adjustment to make, because the voice he used for the reading had a more theatrical bent than the steady, measured voice that wafts me to sleep at nights. However, once I was there, I was there. I laughed throughout the night -- that happy laugh of someone who knows they have found something made just for them... excepting all of the other people it was also made for. Night Vale just makes the parts of my brain that are wont to go ping... go ping.
Jasika Nicole was there as intern Dana. Or her double. She was adorable and I just love the way she plays the character and the way she really sells the precision of language.
James Urbaniak did three messages from our sponsor. The first, for Stamps.com, was the best, but the ad for Hulu had a sort of madness to it that was delightful.
There were some excellent bits involving Carlos that I won't spoil.
I had a great time overall and I look forward to hearing the episode again when it's recorded for the podcast proper. At least, I hope it is. There were moments in there I would really hate to not share with other Night Vale-ians.

The performance was significantly longer than your average episode and most of it was taken up by the "A" storyline, which involved condos and discovering what condos might be.
The Weather (and also the opening act) was Sara Watkins, a singer-songwriter in the bluegrass vein who was very enjoyable and played a mean fiddle.I had a great time overall and I look forward to hearing the episode again when it's recorded for the podcast proper. At least, I hope it is. There were moments in there I would really hate to not share with other Night Vale-ians.
