jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (The Doctor (9) - So Very F**ked)
So. I registered as press for Comic-Con this year, because it's actually important this year to do so (not that I wouldn't've anyway, but that's neither here nor there). There's some sort of serious delay getting press confirmations out, so I email them and they confirm that Classic-Horror has three registered as press, which is good, because we do, in fact, have three.

Then the exhibitors and panel people start emailing. Except they don't email me. They email [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and [livejournal.com profile] airawyn. For a while, I think that they've just singled out the freelancer ([livejournal.com profile] airawyn) and the alphabetically superior editor ([livejournal.com profile] midnightfae). Except I'm still nervous, so I email them and ask about me specifically. They assure me that I am registered.

They email out the confirmations. Unlike normal registration, you *cannot* get into Con as press without your barcoded confirmation. Guess what? Everybody gets one but me. I even checked the email logs. Nothing arrived for me, not even to the wrong email address.

So I'm thinking that somehow they have the wrong email address for me. I've shot them an email about this, but there's a handy note on the confirmations that says that so close to the Con, they can no longer make alterations to our info or make any corrections. P.S. [livejournal.com profile] quantum_gazebo, we thought we'd take the time to delay the press confirmations to the very last minute to screw you over specifically. Take it, monkey boy.

*headdesk* I'll see what the press folks have to say in response to my email, but I'm a little panicked right now.

Throw it open -- when going to Comic-Con (or any major geek gathering), what are some items you always make sure to bring?

I'll start:

  • Watch

  • Advil

  • Teddy Grahams

  • Extra bag for swag

jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Spymommy - Pleasant Schemes)
Depressing: No new Who today.

Very Much Not Depressing: My Comic-Con vacation time starts in two weeks.

Downright Cheer-making: I get to see my friends soon! In San Diego! Which is a city!

Hilarious: I forget where this was linked, but HBO's clips for Flight of the Conchords are hilarious.

Example below the cut )

There ain't no party like my Nana's tea party.

Anyway. How are you?

For the Comic-Con n00bs and those who want to be Comic-Con n00bs. Brilliant, funny, and so true.

There's a fourteen-step guide to getting drunk during Con weekend. What more do you need?

Sidenote: A guide to getting drunk with [livejournal.com profile] quantum_gazebo at Comic-Con.

1. Order me an alcoholic cider.
2. Watch me nurse the cider over the course of an hour.
3. Mention Christopher Eccleston or Amber Benson as freqently as possible if you want a glazed look.
4. Tell really terrible stories about things you shouldn't have done if you want me to laugh hysterically.
5. Don't worry about a second round. I was drunk the moment lips touched cider and I'll stay that way for at least two hours.

Sent the good folks at Comic-Con my press info today, so I can get on all the cool lists. Hopefully a schedule for the con is forthcoming. I have an actual staff this year (okay, my roommate) and I'm hoping to use that to my advantage and widen the berth of our coverage.

As always, I'm taking volunteers for covering panels at the Con. Eternal gratitude can be yours!

Hey all. Unlike my compatriots fresh from Comic-Con and Writercon, I am not enlivened by the spirit of the creative. Far from it! I feel mired in a general useless sludge of not-caring-very-much. Which is a shame, really, because I think if I did care, I'd do something awesome.

Oh well.

At Con, however, I turned some unused bases from my icon caption contest into fun and funky icons with my very own captions. Classic Who and Farscape icons this way!

At work, but the weekend nears...
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (K-9 - Affirmative)
According to [livejournal.com profile] nemo_gravis, somebody wearing a green t-shirt and fitting my general physical description showed up in the background of G4's Con coverage.

Because, you know, I haven't randomly popped up on the Lost Season 1 or Serenity featurettes. I really need more coverage as That Tall Comic-Con Guy.
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Mickey - Boy Wonder)
Discounting not-awesome swag, obviously. I am working from memory here. This list will be updated once I get home and have time to take an inventory.

Purchased )

Free swag list coming soon...

Had a fantastic time. Miss my friends already. My muscles are pleased it's all over, however.
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Cap'n Jack - Trigger Happy)
Had a really bad knock today, not-Con-related, but otherwise, things are going fantastic. Hung out with [livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and [livejournal.com profile] _jealousy_ all day, with cameos by the rest of the gang. Tomorrow I am scheduled to hang with [livejournal.com profile] side_of_zen and [livejournal.com profile] brightone for the Snakes on a Plane panel, and the whole gang for the Smart Pop panel.

I am skipping most/all of the Skiffy panels, as I don't really watch Skiffy unless it's a British import featuring a blue police box -- and there's no panels about Who this year.

Stuff I've purchased so far:
Serenity poster
Tenth Doctor & Rose poster
The Prisoner poster
Finding Farscape (Smart Pop books)
A Sonic Screwdriver (the next-to-last one at the Con)
A "Math is Delicious!" Questionable Content shirt
Two raffle tickets for the California Browncoats drawing.

Planned purchases:
One Macfarlane book (title TBD)
Something cool from Sideshow (no idea what)

Working on getting notes compiled from Con now.
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Marshall - Hopeful)
Arrived in San Diego, found that my sekrit projekt had been revealed in some quarters (find out where, kiddies), and realized that I hadn't fully secured elements of the projekt from public view after showing it to a friend last night.

Whoops.

Everything's cool now, and Julia and I will be heading down to the Convention Center here in the next hour or so.
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Wes/Gunn - Legs in Strange Places)
[livejournal.com profile] midnightfae and I are enjoying a little pre-Con breakfast at Willow House (well, coffee, but she's having a bagel) before hitting the road for San Diego. I have overpacked, as is my wont when I don't have to worry about airline luggage limitations. I have every conceivable kind of connector, because hey, might need it.

Anyway. Looking forward to the fun and the temperate climes.

Don't you wish you were going to Comic-Con, too?
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Xander - Joyful Child)
Raise your hand if Comic-Con. Ignore that the sentence doesn't make sense unless you're a coder. Just lemme know if you're going.
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (The Doctor - Uh-huh)
This year, Writercon, a fan convention devoted to fanfiction writers, and Comic-Con, the single largest geek convention on planet Earth (with an attendance that exceeds the population of my hometown which has about 100k people), are taking place on the same weekend in late July. Poor planning, I say. I'm trying to gauge my flist's preference on this one (and non-flist is welcome too! Tell your friends! Tell your enemies! Tell your frenemies!).

Dude. I love the international Serenity trailer so very much. I think it's way better than the American trailer.

Finished transcribing the Cry Wolf interview last night. Will probably say something about that whole experience on the C-H blog. Still exhausted.
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (Tom Servo Lives!)
I am home. I am tired.

But I shook Joss's hand today and told him that I loved his work. That made me happy.

Ah, hell

I just totally blew my chance to attend the premiere of The Devil's Rejects. I thought it was later tonight but apparently I had to be there over an hour ago. Whoops.

I may just become another one of those "WIP King" types who do nothing but start stories and then frustratingly never finish them. I'm loaded with Doctor Who ideas, but I still have two Buffyverse fics to finish up.

Blargh.

In other news, Doctor/Jack/Rose OT3 smut is hawt. *thanks [livejournal.com profile] lizbetann and [livejournal.com profile] diannelamerc*

I have my journalist's satchel all loaded up with the necessities for Comic-Con. It's heavy as hell. I may reorganize and keep a separate "home base" bag. I can't imagine needing six audio tapes in one day. I can't imagine needing six audio tapes in one weekend.

But I keeping all twelve pens with me. You never know. I think I'll bring my Sharpie, too.

Wednesday is almost here! OMG YAY!
jetpack_monkey_ljarchive: (King Kong - Bring It)
Bought a new tape recorder and memory card for the digital camera. Now I'm super-duper set for Comic-Con, the reporting and being a responsible member of the press side of things anyway. The getting crazy and possibly naked part takes care of itself. I hope.

I'm half-convinced that I should start writing the Prisoner/Doctor Who crossover fic that I started in [livejournal.com profile] goalieanna's journal. Mostly because the thought amuses me. However, putting an escape device in a place that is, supposedly, completely inescapable makes things difficult.

If you haven't had a chance yet, check out Doctor Who: Scream of the Shalka while BBC Cult is still open (it shuts down on July 15th, due to some people being whiny about where their license fee is going). It's a web animation produced before the BBC announced the new series. It features a completely different Ninth Doctor (voiced by Richard E. Grant) with a different sort of story.

I've printed up professional looking Outlook planner pages with my full Comic-Con schedule. Witness the geekitude that is me. Also started making a list of all the things I need to bring for autographing. I'm torn between bringing my Evil Dead DVD or If Chins Could Kill...

*goes to flop over and sleep*
